E S S O N 3

In this lesson, students are challenged to create data sets that
have specific statistical measures, such as a mean of 8. The process
of working backwards to solve the problems helps students develop
a deeper understanding of means, medians, modes, and ranges.

Decide whether to hand out all the Mystery Data games to students
at once or to hand them out one by one. If you choose the latter,
then cut the games into separate cards. Make enough copies for half
the class, since pairs can switch games.
